New Thing is your love in action, inside the former Soviet Union
Curious about where NewThing.net came from?
A report from Doug Brendel to all who support or follow New Thing in Belarus...
5 words a homeless person never wants to hear:
“You can’t come in here”
But
this pandemic can’t stop our “Response of the Heart” team
from inviting the poor to a life-giving lunch every day
For years, we’ve provided a nutritious midday meal for up to 140 of Minsk’s homeless people every weekday, with the generous support of friends like you.
But the dangers of COVID-19 have now put our dining room off limits.
Undaunted, chef Valery and his team mask up and prepare to serve however they can.
Many of the homeless arrive early, as usual. But now, for the first time, they have to wait in line.
Inside, our “boutique” of donated clothes and goods has no “customers.”
So a mini-boutique has moved outdoors, where guests can browse while they wait for lunch.
Valery and the team have set up a makeshift to-go window.
Normally they serve meals on stainless steel kitchenware; expenses are up now that disposable gear is required.
Thank you to all who give to New Thing! Your generosity says, to someone in need,
No matter what, you have value. And you are not alone.
More adventures to come!
Thanks for journeying with us!
Much love,
Doug Brendel
