A report from Doug Brendel to all who support or follow New
Thing in Belarus...
POOF! A decade goes by!...
Love never quits
Exactly 10 years ago, I was in Belarus on a whirlwind New Thing
tour....
I spent a week visiting places our “Response of the Heart” team
had helped and places that needed help....
At the shelter for abused and abandoned children in Zhodino, toys
and sweets were popular, but bananas were the fave!
Over the years, friends of New Thing have invested $100,000 in
renovations to this facility,
including a kitchen where young people learn to fend for
themselves when their own family can’t or won’t.
At an association to support families of children with
disabilities, in Dzerzhinsk, there was plenty of music and dancing!
In Mododyechnya, the team and I visited boarding schools for
children with spinal conditions and children with visual impairment.
And then back to the soup kitchen for the homeless and poor of
Minsk.
These 10 years have gone by in a flash. And they represent only
half of the time we’ve been helping the people of Belarus.
It’s not “hit and run.” It’s “love and keep on loving.”
Love makes a mark. Everyone in these photos is 10 years older now.
But everyone in these photos remembers the day strangers first
arrived, offering love in practical packages.
Thanks for journeying with New Thing.
More adventures to come!
Much love,
Doug Brendel
