Christmas is coming...
What’s for Dinner?
Some of the kitchenware at the Children’s Village is nearly 30 years old.
Ask a house-mom in this orphanage what she wants for Christmas, and there’s no hesitation.
Answer: кастрюли. (Say kastryuli). Translation: saucepots.
The pots in these photos are perfectly clean. They’re just damaged by decades of constant use.
The house-moms are preparing meals for as many as 10 children in each of 15 houses.
On breaks and holidays, older kids may come home from college. Sometimes there are as many as 20 mouths to feed.
Moms need pots that hold as much as 10 liters.
But their ancient pots have rust, dents, some lack handles or lids.
Some moms resort to smaller, less damaged pots, and cook in shifts. It’s exhausting.

Or click on the right photo for a video of a house-mom doing 35 seconds of show-and-tell.
To replace all the old, damaged, and inadequate saucepots at the Children’s Village will cost $1,800.
The new ones will be stainless steel, non-stick, with heat-resistant lids. The best.
If you’d like to offer a Christmas gift through New Thing, this is what your donation will go toward.
Thanks for thinking about it.
And thanks for journeying with New Thing!
More adventures to come!
Merry Christmas!
Much love,
Doug Brendel
